You built the website and the enquiries never came. The problem usually is not the design. Here is what actually makes a website findable, trusted and profitable.
You did the sensible thing. You built the website. Maybe you used a drag and drop builder, maybe an AI tool put it together in an afternoon, maybe you paid someone. It looks good. You were proud to send the link around.
Then a month passed. Then three. The contact form has been used twice, once by you testing it and once by somebody selling search engine services. Nobody is calling. And the natural conclusion is that the website must not be good enough, so perhaps it needs redesigning again.
It almost certainly does not. In our experience the design is rarely the problem. The problem is that a website is a shopfront, and you can build the most beautiful shopfront in the world on a street that nobody walks down.
Because being on the internet and being findable on the internet are two completely different things.
When your site goes live, nothing automatically tells anyone it exists. Google does not know about it yet. The AI assistants people increasingly ask for recommendations have never seen it. Nobody is linking to it. There is no reason for a single human being to arrive at that address unless you personally sent them.
Website builders are very good at the building part. That is what they sell and they do it well. What they do not do, and do not claim to do, is the work that comes after: getting the site indexed, structured, trusted, linked to and mentioned in the places where your customers actually look. That work is invisible, unglamorous, and it is the entire difference between a website and a business online.
Think of it as ingredients rather than appearance. A meal can look beautiful and taste of nothing. Here is what genuinely goes into a website that produces enquiries.
Search engine optimisation is the work of making your site legible to Google. Correct page titles, sensible structure, content that matches what people actually type, technical tidiness underneath. It is not a trick and it is not a one-off task.
This is the foundation of our SEO services in Mauritius.
This is new and most businesses have not caught up. When someone asks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Google's AI summary to recommend a supplier, the answer comes from sources those systems trust and can read cleanly. Being cited in that answer is becoming as valuable as ranking first on Google.
This work has picked up its own names, answer engine optimisation and generative engine optimisation, but the principle is simple: be the clearest, most trustworthy answer to a real question. See our AI search visibility service.
Google grades every site on four things: how quickly it loads, whether people with disabilities can use it, whether it is built safely, and whether search engines can read it properly. Most new sites score poorly on at least two of these without their owners ever knowing.
It costs you rankings, and it costs you visitors who leave before the page finishes loading.
A visitor decides in seconds whether you are a real business. Real address, real names, real photographs, reviews, clear pricing, an actual person to speak to. This is the cheapest improvement available to most small businesses, and the most commonly skipped.
There is a fifth ingredient that does not fit neatly into a checklist: being maintained. A site is not furniture. Software goes out of date, links break, information becomes wrong, and an unmaintained site quietly becomes a security risk and an embarrassment at the same time.
No, and it is worth being fair to the builders here. They sell you the ability to construct pages, and they deliver that. Some now include a basic SEO panel where you can type a page title.
But the panel does not know your market, your competitors, or what your customers actually search for. It cannot decide what pages your site should have. It will not build the trust signals, earn the mentions elsewhere, or notice that your loading time collapsed after you uploaded twelve photographs straight from your phone.
This is the gap we care most about, because it is where the loss is largest.
If you run a real business with real premises and real customers, you already have the hardest thing to fake. You have years of experience, actual reviews from actual people, local reputation, and knowledge nobody with a laptop and a template can invent. That is exactly what search engines and AI systems are looking for when they decide who to recommend.
The trouble is that none of it is visible online. It exists in your head, in your customers' memories, and in a filing cabinet. So when someone in your town searches for what you do, or asks an AI assistant for a recommendation, you are invisible while a newer and weaker competitor with a tidier website gets the call.
Bridging that gap is the whole job. Taking a real business that already works and making it legible to the digital world, so the reputation you have already earned actually reaches the people looking for it.

Start by finding out what is actually wrong before you spend anything on fixing it. Here is the order we would look at it in.
A word of caution before you act on any of it. Anyone who promises you first place on Google, or a fixed number of leads per month, is guessing at best. This work is steady and cumulative rather than instant, and any honest supplier will tell you that.
Digital.mu has spent over twenty years building websites and web applications for businesses across several countries. Hundreds of sites over that period, and around thirty clients currently under active management across South Africa, Mauritius, the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates. We work with established businesses that already know what they are doing offline and want that to count online.
Because being online and being findable are two different things. Nothing automatically tells Google, AI assistants or potential customers that your site exists. That work, getting indexed, structured, trusted and linked to, has to happen after the build.
It's the work of making your business the answer AI assistants like ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini give when someone asks for a recommendation in your category. It depends on being clear, trustworthy and easy for those systems to read, similar to but distinct from classic Google SEO.
Not fully. Builders are good at constructing pages and some include a basic SEO panel, but they don't know your market or competitors, can't decide what pages you need, and won't build the trust signals or external mentions that search engines and AI tools look for.
Performance (how fast it loads), accessibility (whether people with disabilities can use it), best practices (whether it's built safely) and SEO (whether search engines can read it properly). Most new sites score poorly on at least two of these without their owners knowing.
Check whether it's indexed by Google, score it against the four Google measures, confirm your pages match what people search for, check your trust signals are present, and ask an AI assistant if it already recommends you. The AI check is free and takes about two minutes.
We will review your website and tell you honestly what is working, what is not, and what is worth fixing first. Plain language, no jargon, no obligation. If your site is in good shape, we will say so.
